The 50,000 tons/year 1-hexene/1-octene co-production unit at Daqing Petrochemical has successfully started up.

On July 27, the new 50,000 tons/year 1-hexene/1-octene co-production unit constructed by the joint venture of Daqing Petrochemical Engineering Co., Ltd. and Daqing Petrochemical Construction Co., Ltd. successfully achieved a one-time start-up. The unit successfully produced qualified products, marking a major breakthrough in the industrialization of domestic proprietary technology for high-end linear α-olefins. This effectively resolves the "stranglehold" pain points in the supply of high-end chemical raw materials, helps ensure the safety and stability of the industrial chain and supply chain, and empowers the development of domestic strategic emerging industries.

As PetroChina's first 50,000 tons/year 1-hexene and 1-octene co-production unit, the project relies on the co-manufacturing process jointly developed by Daqing Petrochemical Engineering, Daqing Petrochemical, and the Daqing Center of the Petrochemical Research Institute, which possesses complete independent intellectual property rights. Compared with traditional processes, this methodology features excellent catalyst activity and strong selectivity, and allows to flexible adjustment of the product structure. It can dynamically adjust the output ratio of 1-hexene to 1-octene in response to market trends, significantly enhancing the thorough economic efficiency of the unit.

The project construction proceeded with clear and orderly milestones: construction of the unit began on July 11, 2025, and intermediate handover was completed to high standards on June 16, 2026; catalyst feeding and interaction system establishment were completed at 13:38 on July 25, and qualified 1-hexene and 1-octene items were produced at 08:46 on July 27.

In terms of the process route, ethylene is pressurized and fully mixed with a specialized solvent-based products before being fed into the core reactor. Under the regulation of a highly efficient catalytic system, ethylene oligomerization occurs to create a mixed material rich in 1-hexene and 1-octene. The mixed items undergo fine separation via a distillation system to yield high-purity manufacturing-grade 1-hexene and 1-octene, along with by-items such as mixed C6, mixed C10-C20 olefins, and low molecular weight wax. The entire process flow has been fully connected, the unit is operating stably, and all core process indicators have met design standards.
