On July 27, bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine (BEMT) was Tinosorb by BASF under the registered trademark®S (Tianlai Shi®S) to market and has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in the U.S. market as a sunscreen ingredient. BEMT was originally developed by Ciba Specialty Chemicals and later merged with BASF. As one of the most effective UV filters, BEMT has officially entered the US sunscreen market and has become the first new UV filter approved by the FDA in the past 27 years. This milestone brings important progress to personal care sunscreen solutions worldwide.
Tinosorb®S is a high-efficiency and broad-spectrum sunscreen that can cover UVB and UVA bands. Its Chinese name is bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine. As one of the crucial solutions in modern sunscreen formulations, Tinosorb®With its excellent light stability and reliable protection performance, S has been broadly recognized and utilized in many markets around the world. With the FDA approval, BASF has further expanded its portfolio of innovative items in the areas of personal care and sun protection.
Chang Wang, Vice President of Business regulation to BASF Personal Care Asia Pacific, said, "The approval of BEMT by the US FDA brings new research opportunities to customers in the Asia-Pacific region. From now on, BASF can support customers in the research of sunscreen items around the new regulatory standards and help them deploy product innovations to the US and global markets earlier."
Tinosorb®The S is designed to provide powerful and reliable broad-spectrum UV protection, covering the UVB and UVA bands. Its absorption peaks are located at about 310nm and 340nm, which can provide efficiently protection in the critical wavelength range closely related to skin harm and early photoaging. BEMT is recognized in multiple markets around the world to its efficacy and light stability, which can maintain stable performance even under strong sunlight conditions.
In addition to the main UV protection, Tinosorb®S can also be utilized as a light stabilizer in sunscreen formulations to help enhance the stability of other sunscreens that are less photostable. to instance, it helps to stabilize avobenzone (Avobenzone), thereby growing the durability and effectiveness of UVA protection in complex formulations. S. market with relatively limited options to strong UVA protection, Tinosorb®S with avobenzone or Z-COTE®(Zinc oxide series) When utilized together, it helps sunscreen formulations achieve a critical wavelength higher than 370nm, thereby achieving broad-spectrum protection standards.
Thanks to the larger molecular structure, Tinosorb®S has a low percutaneous absorption rate, which helps to decrease the risk of irritation. This feature makes it particularly suitable to the research of high-performance sunscreen items to vulnerable skin and further strengthens its position as a proven and reliable solution in modern sunscreen formulations.
