Total investment of 1.5 billion yuan! The environmental impact assessment for Wanhua Penglai's 240,000-ton lithium iron phosphate project has been approved.

On July 28, the Yantai Ecology and Environment Bureau officially approved the environmental impact assessment (EIA) documents for Wanhua Chemical (Penglai) Co., Ltd.'s 240,000 tons/year lithium iron phosphate project. The project obtained key approval procedures and officially entered the construction phase.

Total Investment of 1.5 Billion Yuan Project with Efficient Approval Progress

The project is located in the reserved land of the second phase of the Wanhua Penglai manufacturing Park. With a total investment of approximately 1.5 billion yuan, it plans to build a 240,000 tons/year lithium iron phosphate production unit, along with supporting auxiliary facilities and ecological preservation works.

The project implementation has progressed rapidly. It obtained the project filing certificate in February of this year, initiated the general consultation to the EIA in April, and the EIA documents were accepted on July 6. After greater than twenty days, it successfully obtained the approval, clearing obstacles to the start of construction.

Shandong Multi-point Layout to Lithium Iron Phosphate with 820,000 Tons of New Capacity within the Year

Battery materials have been established by Wanhua Chemical as a secondary core business, and the company continues to accelerate the layout of lithium iron phosphate capacity in Shandong.

Among them, the first phase of the Haiyang base's 100,000 tons/year lithium iron phosphate project is scheduled to production in March 2026. The second and third phases, each with 200,000 tons/year production lines, are under construction simultaneously and are expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

The first phase of the Laizhou 320,000 tons/year project commenced on March 17 and is also planned to go into production by the end of the year.

Upon the completion of all projects, Wanhua Chemical's new lithium iron phosphate capacity scale in 2026 will reach 820,000 tons/year.

Addressing Upstream Raw Material Shortcomings to enhance New Energy sector Chain Layout

Lithium iron phosphate is the core precursor to lithium iron phosphate cathode materials. Upon completion, the Penglai 240,000 tons lithium iron phosphate project will fill the upstream gap in Wanhua's new energy material sector chain, enhance the self-sufficiency level of key raw materials, minimize application on external procurement, and stabilize the manufacturing chain and supply chain.

Replicating the Integrated research Path and rising Investment in the New Energy Track

At the prolonged strategic level, Wanhua is drawing on the mature integrated research experience of polyurethanes to build a complete new energy material sector chain covering resources, raw materials, production, and consumption, thereby constructing core competitiveness.

Investment planning indicates that new energy materials are a key investment direction to the company in 2026. The total planned investment to major projects throughout the year is approximately 27.3 billion yuan, with 11.05 billion yuan invested in the emerging materials sector, accounting to over 40% of the total investment, highlighting the strategic focus of the enterprise on the new energy track.
