Alterra, Technip Energies and Neste have presented a standardized, modular system concept for the chemical recycling of plastic waste under the name Nerea. The offer is aimed in particular at waste disposal companies, project developers and companies in the refining and petrochemical industry. The aim is to standardize the planning and implementation of industrial recycling plants more strongly and thereby make investment costs, project risks and implementation times easier to calculate.
Nerea converts the plant engineering, which has so far been developed in a project-specific manner, into a standardized product model. The vegetation are intended to convert heterogeneous and mechanically difficult plastic discarded materials into a fluid hydrocarbon raw material, which can then be further processed in refineries or petrochemical vegetation. The material produced is intended as a starting material to the production of new plastics.
Combination of existing technologies and competencies
The concept is based on a collaboration between the three companies agreed in November 2024. Alterra brings in a thermochemical liquefaction process that converts mixed plastic discarded materials into fluid hydrocarbons under the action of heat.
