Schütz GmbH & Co. KGaA announced on 14. The construction of a new production and logistics site for Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBC) in Ludwigshafen began on September 20, 2026. The investment volume is more than € 40 million. Euros. Commissioning is scheduled for summer 2027.
The new location is being built on an area of around 20,000 square meters immediately adjacent to the main BASF SE plant. Production areas to IBC, a packing agent warehouse and office and social space are planned. According to Schütz, around 60 jobs will initially be created; In further expansion stages, an increase to up to 100 jobs is planned.
One focus of the project is on the regional supply of the BASF plant and other manufacturing customers in the Rhine-Neckar region. Order processing, production planning and the supply of the unloading points at BASF are to be linked via a digitally controlled IT infrastructure. According to the company, the direct connection of the Schütz plant to the neighboring BASF site will mean around 1.5 million euros per year. There are no truck kilometers.
According to Schütz, the plant is designed to energy-efficient production and logistics processes. Among other things, company-owned systems and machines from the competence center in Selters are utilized. Part of the electricity demand is to be covered by a photovoltaic system at the site.
In addition, the plant is to be integrated into Schütz's existing circulatory system. This includes the return, processing, reuse and recycling of utilized manufacturing packaging. The company thus combines the expansion of its production capacities with a stronger regional recycling of packaging.
According to the company, Schütz and BASF have been working together since the 1960 s. With the new location, this supply relationship will be expanded to include its own manufacturing and logistics infrastructure in the immediate vicinity of the BASF parent plant.
