I. Market Review
Over the past week (September 9–15), the PA66 spot market underwent strong consolidation, with quotes remaining high and stagnant. The SunSirs benchmark price held steady at 19,100.00 RMB/ton, showing limited fluctuation, and actual transactions were largely concluded through negotiation. Regarding cyclical indicators, the 60-day cycle sits in a high range, while the annual price position remains in the low-to-mid range. Moving average signals are mixed—the 5-day average spread is flat, the 10-day spread has retreated, and the 20-day spread has risen—indicating a state of strong consolidation (bullish bias) within a fluctuating market, without yet forming a unified signal to a one-sided direction.
II. Cost Analysis
Prices to upstream adiponitrile have risen slightly, and the strengthening of upstream chemicals like acrylonitrile has bolstered support to PA66 production costs. Previously, chip prices hovered near the sector cost line, placing significant profit pressure on companies; consequently, willingness to sell at low prices has waned, and leading companies are strongly inclined to maintain price levels. However, the overall supply of adiponitrile remains relatively ample with no significant contraction, so the conditions to a sustained surge in raw material costs are not yet present.
III. Supply and Demand Analysis
On the supply side, domestic PA66 plant operating rates remain relatively high, ensuring sufficient overall supply without any obvious shortages. While manufacturers are increasingly inclined to support prices following the recent rebound, there have been no extensive production cuts aimed at propping up prices, and market liquidity remains adequate. Regarding demand, expectations to the "Golden September" peak season have revived inquiries from downstream sectors—such as modified plastics, injection molding, and textile airbag yarns—leading to some precautionary restocking. However, actual terminal orders have not seen explosive development. Downstream acceptance of high raw material prices is limited; most buyers are purchasing on an as-needed basis with little appetite to bulk stockpiling, creating a drag on upward price momentum. Amidst this tug-of-war between supply and demand, the market continues to consolidate with high-level fluctuations.
IV. immediate Forecast
In the short term, the PA66 spot market is highly likely to maintain its pattern of strong fluctuation and consolidation. Cost support and expectations to the peak season are bolstering the market, maintaining some upward momentum; however, with prices currently at a 60-day high and limited follow-through from downstream sectors, significant further gains face considerable resistance. Prices are likely to fluctuate within the 18,700–19,600 RMB/tonne range in the near term; key factors to monitor include the price trends of the raw material adiponitrile and the actual realization of downstream autumn/winter orders.
