Recently, SK Incheon Petrochemical officially announced that it will carry out a large-scale regular plant-wide overhaul. In order to comprehensively inspect equipment hidden dangers, improve the operational stability of production units and overall operational efficiency, the company will suspend all plant-wide production operations from October 6 to November 14 to carry out a 40-day systematic maintenance and upgrade work.
According to sector practices, the extensive regular overhaul cycle to refinery and petrochemical vegetation is 3 to 4 years. This overhaul is the first major plant-wide maintenance project carried out by SK Incheon Petrochemical after four years since 2022. During the overhaul period, the enterprise will shut down all production processes, disassemble, conduct precise flaw detection and complete inspections on various production equipment, and simultaneously promote multiple transformation operations such as replacing old equipment, replacing manufacturing catalysts, and optimizing and upgrading production energy efficiency, so as to comprehensively consolidate the safe production foundation of the units and enhance subsequent production efficiency.
In response to the possible impact on the adjacent residential areas during the major overhaul, SK Incheon Petrochemical has deployed prevention and manage measures in advance and comprehensively strengthened dynamic environmental monitoring. It is reported that during the shutdown and restart of the units, the incineration and emit of process exhaust emissions will temporarily create flames, noise and peculiar smells. The enterprise will minimize the interference of overhaul operations on the daily lives of adjacent residents through refined manage.
To ensure the safe and orderly progress of this extensive overhaul, the enterprise organized a total of greater than 500 employees and cooperative units to hold a zero-accident and zero-disaster security assembly on September 30, comprehensively inspected on-site security hazards, improved the on-site security regulation system, and built a solid security line to overhaul construction.
This overhaul construction is of substantial scale, with a maximum of greater than 2,200 operators invested per day during the peak operation period, and a total of about 89,000 on-site operation person-times throughout the process. At the same time, this major overhaul will efficiently drive regional economic research. Relying on the regional consumption of construction personnel, the demand to maintenance equipment and consumables procurement, etc., it is estimated that it will bring 15.4 billion won in direct and indirect economic driving benefits to Incheon and help increase regional economic income.
