According to the PM E-DRIVE plan of the Ministry of Heavy Industry in FY2024-25, 10,101 e-2W vehicles and 1,22,982 e-3W vehicles (L5) have been registered on the VAHAN portal
India's Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) announced on 29 September 2024 the "Indian Heavy Industries Electric Drive Innovative Vehicle Improvement Revolution (PM E-DRIVE) Plan", which aims to promote the development of green mobility and electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing ecosystem in India. The program is for a period of two years, with a total expenditure of Rs 109 billion crore as of March 31, 2026. The 2024 Electric Mobility Promotion Plan (EMPS), implemented by MHI, will be implemented for six months from 1 April 2024 to 30 September 2024 and has been incorporated into the PM E-DRIVE Plan. India's Minister of Heavy Industry and Steel, HD Kumaraswamy, hailed the achievement: "Under the visionary leadership of the Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is driving the global transition towards sustainable transport. Sales of more than 1 million electric vehicles are a testament to the success of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries' flagship programs, including FAME, EMPS and PM E-DRIVE. This milestone reaffirms our commitment to a cleaner, greener and more self-sufficient India."
