Evonik opens new world-class alkoxide production facility in Jurong Island, Singapore

Evonik has opened a new world-class alkoxide production facility in Jurong Island, Singapore, marking an important milestone in its global catalyst strategy. First announced in May 2023, this double-digit million-euro investment will both enhance Evonik's ability to meet the growing demand for alkoxides in Asia and support its commitment to sustainable, safe and customer-centric operations.
Designed to the highest safety and environmental standards, the facility achieves net-zero Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions, which is highly aligned with Evonik's broader sustainability goals. Its strategic location in Southeast Asia ensures rapid response and reliable supply to regional customers, supporting industries such as biodiesel, pharmaceuticals and chemical recycling.
"This facility is not just a capacity expansion-it is a reflection of our long-term commitment to Asia." Lauren Kjeldsen, chief operating officer of the custom solutions business, said, "by producing close to our customers, we not only enhance supply security and flexibility, but also contribute to Singapore's vision of a sustainable chemical industry."
The opening ceremony of the new facility was attended by Ms. Grace Fu, Minister of Sustainable Development and Environment and Head of Trade Relations of Singapore.
"Evonik broke ground for the first time in 2023 and completed the construction of this cutting-edge alkoxide plant on schedule and on budget in less than three years. We are delighted to have a partner like Evonik investing in Jurong Island to expand specialty chemicals capacity to meet growing regional and global demand." Minister Fu said in his speech.
The new plant also plays a strategic role in Evonik's transformation process. As part of the company's transition to innovation-driven growth, the facility is part of Evonik's Custom Solutions segment-one of two newly defined core pillars of its product portfolio. The Custom Solutions segment focuses on science-based solutions tailored to meet the dynamic needs of customers in fast-growing markets. This investment helps Evonik achieve leadership in bio-based solutions, energy transition and circular economy, further strengthening its commitment to sustainable high-performance chemistry.
The opening of the Singapore plant completes Evonik's global alkoxide production network, which now covers production sites in Germany, the United States and Argentina. With the addition of this site, Evonik now has a global supply chain for alkoxides, enabling it to quickly and accurately meet market needs in all regions.
The main use of alkoxylates is to produce sustainable biodiesel from vegetable oil, waste cooking oil and other fatty waste. The use of alkoxides makes it possible to optimize the production process and to obtain the highest possible yield of the starting material. In addition, in the synthesis of active ingredients and fine chemicals, alkoxides are also widely used in the field of life sciences.
