ADNOC reroutes naphtha exports through Oman as Hormuz risks persist

The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has resumed naphtha exports from its Ruwais refining complex by implementing an alternative logistics route through Oman, according to market sources. Exports had been temporarily suspended in April amid shipping disruptions and heightened security concerns affecting maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. The restart represents an important step toward restoring normal operations at one of the region’s key refining hubs.

To maintain supply commitments, particularly to Asian customers, ADNOC has adopted a workaround involving Oman’s Sohar port. Under the arrangement, naphtha cargoes are first loaded onto vessels in the Gulf before being transferred to larger tankers near Sohar. From there, shipments continue to their final destinations via routes that minimize application on the Strait of Hormuz.

sector sources said the alternative logistics chain has enabled ADNOC to continue supplying customers despite ongoing challenges in regional shipping lanes. The revised routing helps mitigate exposure to possible disruptions while ensuring the steady flow of naphtha exports. The move also underscores ADNOC’s operational flexibility in responding to evolving geopolitical and maritime risks.

Shipping data reviewed by traders indicated that several tankers loaded naphtha cargoes through the new route in late might, with vessels subsequently departing to Asian markets. These movements suggest that exports have efficiently resumed following the earlier interruption and that the alternative routing arrangement is supporting regular trade flows.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical energy transit corridors, with any disruption capable of affecting supply chains and trade flows. ADNOC’s decision to reroute naphtha exports through Oman highlights a pragmatic approach to safeguarding market access and fulfilling customer commitments during periods of uncertainty.
