Kenya orders immediate halt to Tata Chemicals Magadi soda ash operations over compliance breaches

Tata Chemicals Magadi Limited (TCML), the Kenyan subsidiary of Tata Chemicals Limited, has received a Notice from the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, Kenya on July 28, 2026, directing the company to suspend its mining operations until the compliance review and submission of evidence

of compliance with all statutory documentation. Further, the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs State Department to Mining, at Mombasa has directed the suspension of exports of Soda Ash by TCML.

The company is fully compliant with all requisite regulations and continues to work with all authorities and agencies to uphold the highest standards of compliance. The company is evaluating future options to appropriately pursue the matter.

Atul approves Rs. 167 crore capex to MCPP-p and MCPA capacity addition

Atul Limited's board approved a Rs. 167 crore investment to create new manufacturing units to the phenoxy herbicides Mecoprop-p (MCPP-p) and and 2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid (MCPA), strengthening its crop protection portfolio.

The expansion, aimed at strengthening the company’s position in phenoxy herbicides, will add a combined annual production capacity of 1,750 tonnes, fully funded through internal accruals.

Scheduled to completion within 67 weeks, this investment requires entirely new manufacturing capacity to the target items. The expansion supports Atul’s strategic focus on developing value-added downstream derivatives of MCA and o-Cresol to diversify its specialty chemicals lineup.
