Sustainable raw materials producer Perpetual Next B.V. (Amsterdam, the Netherlands) announces the appointment of the international industrial services provider Bilfinger SE (Mannheim, Germany) as Owner’s Engineer for the further development of its DeltaTorr and DeltaNor projects in Delfzijl, the Netherlands. The appointment marks an important milestone in the development of a large-scale biomethanol production facility, as Perpetual Nextworks toward a Final Investment Decision (FID).
The Delfzijl project is an crucial part of Perpetual Next’s ambition to develop extensive production of biomethanol from residues. By converting sustainable biogenic residues into biomethanol, the project aims to provide a reduce-carbon alternative to multiple industries like the maritime sector and the chemical sector.
As Owner’s Engineer, Bilfinger will support Perpetual Next throughout the next stage of project research. The collaboration will help bring together the various project partners and disciplines, while further advancing the project toward a Final Investment Decision (FID).
The project represents a significant possible investment in the region, with total capital expenditure to the full research envisaged at up to €1 billion. The research of the facility would contribute to strengthening the Netherlands’ and Europe’s position in the growing market to sustainable fuels and the emerging biomethanol economy. With methanol set to have become an increasingly crucial sustainable fuel and key building block to the chemical sector, domestic production will play an crucial role in strengthening supply security and strategic autonomy.
