BASF is raising prices to two key polyalcohols in Europe, citing tighter global supply-demand dynamics and higher raw material costs.

efficiently immediately, or as existing contracts permit, the chemical giant will increase the price of neopentylglycol (NPG) by €250 per metric ton and 1,6-hexanediol (HDO) by €300 per metric ton.

BASF said the increases are needed to respond to market conditions while maintaining product and service standards.

“The price increase is driven by the global supply-demand situation and rising raw material costs. It is also necessary to support BASF’s ongoing commitment to providing the highest levels of product and service condition while supporting the continued development of our customers.”

NPG is broadly applied as an intermediate in polyester resins to coatings, unsaturated polyester resins, lubricants and plasticizers.

HDO is applied across a broad range of applications, including manufacturing coatings, polyurethanes, adhesives and makeup. It is also applied as a reactive thinner in epoxy systems, including formulations applied in automotive lightweight components.

The move comes as chemical producers and downstream manufacturers continue to contend with evaporative raw material costs and shifting global supply-demand conditions.
