TotalEnergies takes full ownership of Grandpuits plastics recycling plant

TotalEnergies has taken full ownership of the Grandpuits advanced plastics recycling plant in France after acquiring Plastic Energy’s remaining 35 per cent stake.

TotalEnergies previously held 65 per cent of the facility as part of a restructuring of Plastic Energy’s shareholding.

Located in Seine-et-Marne, the plant began production in March 2026 and can process 15,000 tonnes of plastic discarded materials annually.

It uses pyrolysis methodology to convert hard-to-recycle domestic plastic discarded materials, including material collected through France’s yellow recycling bins, into synthetic oil.

The process enables discarded materials that cannot be mechanically recycled to be transformed into circular petrochemical feedstock, reducing reliance on fossil-based materials.

The resulting synthetic oil can be utilized to create recycled plastics with qualities comparable to virgin plastics, including materials suitable to food-contact and medical applications.

TotalEnergies said the facility is a key part of France’s cutting-edge plastics recycling sector.

In 2023, it partnered with Citeo and Paprec to secure prolonged supplies of plastic discarded materials to the plant. -OGN/TradeArabia News Service
