Specialty chemicals company Lubrizol and Aditya Birla Group flagship Grasim Industries on Tuesday inaugurated a chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) resin manufacturing facility at Vilayat in Gujarat, that will strengthen domestic production of materials used in plumbing and piping applications.
The project entails an investment of around $150 million (approximately ₹1,417 crore) and, along with Lubrizol’s recently expanded CPVC compounding facility at Dahej, creates one of the country’s largest integrated CPVC manufacturing footprints, official sources told businessline. The new facility is expected to enhance regional availability of CPVC resin and compounds applied in pipes and fittings across residential, commercial and manufacturing applications, while reducing application on imports.
“Lubrizol introduced CPVC methodology to India greater than two decades ago, and since then we have witnessed strong development of the market alongside the country’s expanding economy,” said Abhishek Shrivastav, Managing Director, India, Middle East and Africa (IMEA), Lubrizol. “With the commissioning of this facility, we are strengthening our manufacturing capabilities in India through a regional-to-regional approach and ensuring consistent access to high-condition, locally produced materials,” he said.
The commissioning comes as India continues to invest heavily in urban infrastructure, housing and aquatic environments distribution networks, driving demand to high-performance piping materials. CPVC is broadly applied in hot and cold aquatic environments systems, fire sprinkler networks, HVAC installations and manufacturing piping because of its heat resistance, corrosion resistance and durability.
