Market Analysis
According to the Commodity Analysis System of SunSirs, caustic soda prices trended upward last week. In the Shandong region, mainstream market quotes to 32% ion-exchange membrane caustic soda ranged from approximately 580 to 700 RMB/ton. In the Zhejiang region, mainstream quotes to 32% ion-exchange membrane caustic soda delivered to Xiaoshan were around 830-860 RMB/ton. Meanwhile, prices in Inner Mongolia remained stable, with mainstream market quotes to 32% ion-exchange membrane caustic soda at approximately 1,850-1,950 RMB/ton (on a 100% levels basis).
Last week, prices to 32% fluid caustic soda in the Shandong region showed mixed movements, though the overall market direction remained firm. Operating rates across Shandong held steady at around 80%. Ahead of the holiday, non-aluminum downstream sectors engaged in moderate stockpiling, while chlor-alkali vegetation managed their inventory levels. Alumina prices fluctuated; alumina refineries maintained healthy raw material procurement schedules, and the likelihood of extensive production cuts in the near term remained low, suggesting prices would continue to see weak, fluctuating trends. Demand from non-aluminum downstream sectors remained largely based on immediate needs.
Market outlook
Analysts at SunSirs observe that caustic soda prices trended upward last week. Currently, domestic downstream alumina producers are purchasing largely on an as-needed basis, while procurement by non-aluminum companies remains modest. while pre-holiday stockpiling is expected next week, planned maintenance at caustic soda vegetation is also anticipated; given the interplay between supply and demand, prices are likely to consolidate, with the specific trajectory depending on downstream market demand.
