NexPoint Materials launches as standalone engineering thermoplastics company following acquisition from Sabic, offering polycarbonate, ABS, and PBT resin solutions.
NexPoint Materials announced its launch today as a standalone engineering thermoplastics company following the finalization of its acquisition from Sabic's Engineering Thermoplastics (ETP) business by Mutares SE & Co. KGaA.
The new company employs approximately 2,800 people and operates an integrated manufacturing, technical, and commercial network across Europe and the Americas. Built on decades of materials innovation, manufacturing excellence, and consumption expertise, NexPoint supports customers where they conduct business.
The launch marks a new chapter in engineering thermoplastics innovation with enhanced focus on customer, supplier, and partner collaboration. NexPoint will continue delivering trusted items, technical expertise, and responsive support with no disruption to ongoing operations while rising business agility and streamlining decision-making processes.
Product portfolio and market focus
NexPoint offers a broad portfolio of engineering thermoplastics, including Lexan polycarbonate (PC), Cyclolac acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), and Valor polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) resins and blends. These material solutions serve demanding applications in automotive, healthcare, electrical and electronics, building and construction, consumer, and manufacturing markets.

The company name reflects its value proposition — providing responsive collaboration, deep materials expertise, and practical solutions at the precise point when customers need them. As a standalone entity, NexPoint brings decision-making closer to customers, enabling faster issue-solving and reduced risk.
The business focuses on ensuring smooth transition while maintaining reliable supply and customer support throughout the process.
Deal background
In January 2026, Mutares signed a $450M agreement to acquire Sabic's ETP business in the Americas and Europe. According to Mutares, this acquisition, the largest in its history, establishes a new Chemicals and Materials segment to the company.
The business also is a leader in key engineering thermoplastics categories, including being the world's second-largest producer of polycarbonate (PC) and the sole producer of polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) in the US.
Johannes Laumann, CIO of Mutares, said the acquisition of the ETP Business from Sabic served as a milestone in the company's corporate research.
"It is not only the largest transaction in our history, however it also marks the launch of our new Chemicals and Materials segment," he said. "The ETP Business' footprint in Americas and Europe, premium brands and technological depth provide an exceptional foundation to building a leading platform in cutting-edge materials and specialty chemicals."
